The recent non-binding vote in the EU Parliament on the Schaldemose own-initiative report has resulted in some critical fallout for Malta’ 5 MEPs. The non-binding vote approved the concept that the regulation of online gambling in Europe should be left to the individual member states instead of hewing to a pan-European set of regulations. It didn’t work in Italy, and it is creating major waves of protest in Australia at present – the prospect of governments forcing Internet Service Providers to impose blocks censoring online gambling websites. Business: Online gaming slashes 100 Gibraltar jobs

Gibraltar Internet news source Panorama reported Monday that the British territory’s online-gaming sector has experienced a rash of layoffs in the past year. All told, Panorama said, the number of Gibraltarians employed by online casinos and poker rooms fell from 360 in October 2007 to 261 last month. English bookmaker Better has fired old Arsenal legend Paul Merson from its advertising campaign. Managing director of Better said they took the decision after receiving ‘a lot’ of complaints. Paul Merson especially known for his time with Arsenal, was asked to do the campaign at a social event. The 41 year old ex problem gambler has fought years against his gambling addiction, which was well documented. This did not fell good with people.
