International: Italian slot machines get an upgrade this summer
Starting in September, Italian gaming companies in conjunction with the state’s gaming regulator (AAMS) will enter a new phase in their videolottery campaigns. This phase features improvements and expansions in the popular slots market. The biggest change comes in the form of a new videolottery machine that offers more games and more money than the existing slot machines. The improved machines also introduce a new network jackpot feature and promise players a payout percentage of at least 85%—a 10% improvement on older games.
The plan for implementing these changes is still in development and awaits final ministerial approval, but industry insiders predict that Italian gamblers will start seeing the first experimental machines late this summer. In light of the current world economy, Italy’s expansion of the lottery sector makes good sense; their gambling industry posted a 9.5% increase in profits last month, nearly half of which is credited to the country’s existing videolottery network. The projected changes are expected to inspire another significant boost in gambling revenue.
