China Cracks Down On Online Casino Gambling Again
China Chinese officials have been slowly interfering with residents ability to gamble online. Their latest attempt could be a major blow to people who are engaging in online gambling.
Beijing has now prohibited residents from using virtual money to buy goods. That is a major blow to the Internet gambling industry, who was giving out the virtual money, and players were then able to use that virtual money to buy all sorts of different goods. They were even allowed to exchange the virtual money for real money.
Virtual money will now only be used for virtual goods. The more pressing issue is that the only place that people can spend their virtual money is at the place that it was given to them.
“For players at online casinos, they will be able to use their winnings at the casino where they came from,” said observer Paulette Ruby, “prepaid game cards are going to be the biggest obstacles for players to overcome.”
Even though online gambling was not the specific target of the new law, it will be affected greatly. The Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Commerce have added the regulations after last years attempt to tax the virtual money operations failed.
