Nevada warns against card counting iPhone apps

A February 2009 warning that land casinos need to be on the lookout for an iPhone card counting blackjack app resurfaced this week. The Nevada Gambling Commission, prompted by the experiences of a Californian Indian land casino, cautioned casinos under their authority regarding the dangers of card counters using the app as a card counting aid. Associated Press reports that although card counting is not illegal under Nevada gambling laws, it is considered a felony to use devices to help count cards.

Microgaming adds four new Bingo side games

Online gaming provider Microgaming has added three well known slots – Reel Gems, Pharaoh’s Gems, and Magnificent 777s – converted for use on licensees’ bingo sites as side games and a hitherto unknown game called Germinator as part of their new package. Ladbrokes pulls out of China and Hong Kong

Online gambling marketing affiliates are currently speculating on a surprise move by the UK online gambling group Ladbrokes which suggests that the UK online gambling group is no longer interested in China and Hong Kong business. The speculation has been heightened by Ladbrokes’ silence on the reasons behind its decision. The gambling group emailed affiliates as the week closed, with the following message: Dear Affiliate, We hope all is well. Due to technical problems, as of tonight Ladbrokes has taken the decision to suspend our operations to Chinese and Hong Kong customers across all channels and products until further notice.  [ Read More ]

Papua New Guinea suspends mobile lottery

Barely weeks after launching a mobile based lottery the Papua New Guinea Government National Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has suspended PNG Lotto’s mobile lottery operations pending further consultations. Late in October, the mobile lottery was launched in partnership with the Digicel telecommunications company, but has been heavily criticised by community and church bodies. Paul Siwi, PNG Lotto chief executive says public consultations will be held sometime this week. “The suspension will allow for further consultations with community leaders and a review to ensure that PNG Lotto is meeting all of the conditions of the license awarded by the Gaming Board,”  [ Read More ]

Philweb Corp reports 28% increase in net profit

Philippines based land and online gaming firm, Philweb Corp., has posted a 28% increase in nine month profit mainly attributed to robust gaming. Net income increased by 28% to P477 million in January to September (Q3/2009: P373 million). Revenues totaled P755 million, up 30% compared to the first nine months of 2009 (Q3/2009: P580 million) Philweb said it remitted P921 million to state-owned Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) in the nine months to September. The amount is PAGCOR’s 60% share in Philweb’s e-Games Internet Café and Internet Sports Betting Station businesses.
