Samuel McMaster owes $444,000 and faces 26 felony counts of fraud in New Mexico but is trying to remain out of prison.
Even if McMaster can win back all of the money that he owes, he has to go before judge, who holds the right to sentence him to a maximum of 12 years in prison.
“We’re not talking about a get-out-jail-free card,” remarked Kelly O’Donnell, who is the superintendent of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department.
“If he demonstrates an ability to successfully meet his restitution payments by playing poker, it potentially could sway the judge’s decision on final sentencing,” O’Donnell added.

The Buffalo Bills have finally landed their first pick in the 2010 NFL draft as running back C.J. Spiller has signed a 5-year deal. Spiller’s deal is reported to be worth $25 million but could rise to as much as $37.5 million if incentives are met. The former Clemson star got to the team’s training camp on Friday and headed directly to team meetings before taking the field for the Bill’s evening practice.
Spiller was selected 9th overall and still has a lot of catching up to do after missing 11 practices since the opening of camp on July 29. He realizes he has much to learn in a short amount of time.
“Any time you miss any day, that’s one day you can’t get better,” Spiller said.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will begin their 2010 season without their quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, for a minimum of four games. After giving up arguably their best receiver, Santonio Holmes for peanuts to the New York Jets, Roethlisberger will find few targets on the team to throw to upon his return. While the always dependable Hines Ward is still there, he doesn’t have the speed or athleticism to make the big plays that Holmes built his reputation on. Expect Rashard Mendenhall to shoulder a heavy load as the running attack will be expected to put points on the board in the coming year. Defensively, the Steelers still have one of the toughest groups in the league, and barring injury, this will be the side of the ball to carry them into the playoffs. T

“This is, by no means, a sure thing,” remarked one senior staff member of the financial services committee. “In fact, I’d call it a long shot.”
The main reasoning behind that statement is due to time constraints. Congress will soon take a recess that lats seven weeks, which would only give roughly two weeks time to debate and decide what the next course of action would be for the online gambling bill.
There also is another form of a bill to legalize online poker that is being drawn up by the Senate.

The Gibraltar-based online betting and gaming firm 32Red has reported record revenues with total gross win of £7.8 million in the half-year to end-June (H1,2009: £5.8 million).
The performance was underpinned by good results at the company’s flagship operation, the 32Red Casino, which has continued to flourish in the first half of 2010.
Trading stepped up once again during H1,2010 with casino operations experiencing strong levels of performance across all disciplines:
- Gross win £6.8 million ( H1,2009: £5.2 million)
- Active casino customers 19,497 up 35% on H1,2009
- Casino player yield £353 (H1,2009: £360)
- New Casino players 12,289, up 26% on H1,2009
- Casino cost per acquisition: £86 (H1,2009: £89)
Poker revenue followed a general industry trend and was down 14% at £400,000 and Bingo revenue declined 3% to £100,000.
