32 Red reports record first half year revenues

The Gibraltar-based online betting and gaming firm 32Red has reported record revenues with total gross win of £7.8 million in the half-year to end-June (H1,2009: £5.8 million).

The performance was underpinned by good results at the company’s flagship operation, the 32Red Casino, which has continued to flourish in the first half of 2010.

Trading stepped up once again during H1,2010 with casino operations experiencing strong levels of performance across all disciplines:

Gross win £6.8 million ( H1,2009: £5.2 million)
Active casino customers 19,497 up 35% on H1,2009
Casino player yield £353 (H1,2009: £360)
New Casino players 12,289, up 26% on H1,2009
Casino cost per acquisition: £86 (H1,2009: £89)

Poker revenue followed a general industry trend and was down 14% at £400,000 and Bingo revenue declined 3% to £100,000.

Management reported that the encouraging performance both in terms of player numbers and revenues reflects the effectiveness of marketing activities and supports the company’s belief in the strength of the 32Red brand, reputation and operational expertise.

32Red continues to take steps to protect its Intellectual Property Rights and litigation with William Hill remains ongoing with a trial date set for October 2010.

On 15th February 2010, the Company announced the acquisition of the assets of two European-focused online casinos, Nedplay and Golden Lounge, both purchased for nominal consideration. Both casinos have been fully integrated and have generated £500,000 in revenues from the period since acquisition up to 30th June 2010. Players of both Nedplay and Golden Lounge have responded well to direct marketing and the company is assessing the marketability of both brands going forward.

The group chief executive, Ed Ware, commented: “Our strong first half performance is particularly pleasing given the challenging economic conditions in the United Kingdom, which remains our core marketplace.

“We believe that the 32Red brand and its core values continue to provide us with the tools to penetrate the online and mobile casino market successfully.

“Another period of strong recruitment at reduced cost per acquisition rates since the end of 2008 gives us optimism for the prospects of the business going forwards.

“The group has further strengthened its balance sheet and, having repaid all outstanding bank debt, will increase marketing spend during the second half of the year. While the focus remains in the UK, the Board continues to monitor regulatory developments in Europe and the rest of the world with a view to expanding into new markets should attractive opportunities arise.’

Het tweede evenement van de World Series Of Poker Europe 2009 is eindelijk afgelopen. De bedoeling was dat het £2.500 Pot Limit Hold’em/ Omaha evenement dinsdag afgelopen zou zijn, maar door een wijziging in het schema was er nog een extra dag nodig om het toernooi uit te spelen. Woensdag moesten de laatste spelers dus nog een keer terugkomen om de strijd te beslissen. Het ging om vijf spelers met als chipsleader Mats Gavatin, die bijna een half miljoen aan chips had. We hadden graag gemeld dat er ook een Nederlander tussen die laatste vijf spelers zat, maar helaas mocht het niet zo zijn.

Er waren niet veel deelnemers op het toernooi afgekomen, maar 158 spelers. Uiteindelijk waren er op de onverwachte dag 3 zoals gezegd nog vijf spelers. Onder hen onder andere Men "The Master" Nguyen. Mats Gavatin begon de dag als chipsleader, maar moest die positie al gauw afstaan aan Erik Cajelais. Cajelais heeft een topdag en schakelt de ene na de andere speler uit. Uiteindelijk gaat het in de heads-up tussen Mats Gavatin en Erik Cajelais. Gavatin begon met een flinke achterstand en wist die niet meer in te halen. Hij wordt dan ook al vrij snel uitgeschakeld door Cajelais. Mats Gavatin eindigt dus als tweede en krijgt daar ruim zestigduizend pond voor. De eerste plaats is voor Erik Cajelais en hij wint daarmee zijn eerste bracelet. Uiteraard wint hij ook een aanzienlijk geldbedrag: maar liefst £104.677 mag hij mee naar huis nemen. Cajelais eindigde eerder al meerdere malen als tweede bij de World Series Of Poker en de World Poker Tour. Nu is het hem dan eindelijk gelukt om als eerste te eindigen bij een groot toernooi.

Op dit moment wordt event 3 gespeeld, een £5.000 Pot Limit Omaha evenement. Dit evenement zal nog tot en met vrijdag 25 september duren. Diezelfde dag vindt er ook een speciaal evenement plaats: de Caesars Cup – Europe vs USA. Hierbij zal een team met de beste pokerspelers uit Europa het op gaan nemen tegen een team met de beste pokerspelers uit Amerika. Het gaat bij dit evenement puur om de eer en welk continent het beste team heeft. De WSOP Europe wordt tenslotte afgesloten door het Main Event, wat van 26 september tot en met 1 oktober plaats zal vinden.

PartyPoker with ‘Poker in the Sky’

One of the best known poker brands, Party Poker, are the marketleaders when it comes to online poker and promotions. On 11 September they will bring this to a higher level, 150 feet to be exact with the Poker in the Sky event.

The Poker in the Sky event will be held in Copenhagen in Denmark on 11 September, 150 feet above the Town hall Square. A total of 22 poker players will gamble in the event, which will last for four hours. The players will sit at a table on a platform, at 150 feet hoisted above the town hall square by a crane. WCOOP Kicks Off Tomorrow – Online Casino News

The 2009 World Championships Of Online Poker (WCOOP) begins tomorrow from half-past two in the afternoon New York time with a $215 buy-in no-limit hold’em six-max event featuring a $1.25 million guarantee.

Being hosted at leading online poker room PokerStars.com, the WCOOP is promising in excess of $40 million in guaranteed prizes spread over 45 events throughout September.

The second WCOOP event is a $215 Razz competition featuring a $200,000 guarantee scheduled to take place from half-past four on Thursday.

The action will continue on September 4 with a $215 pot-limit OMAHA six-max tournament featuring a $500,000 guarantee and a no-limit single draw two-to-seven tournament with rebuys for the same stake. The fifth WCOOP event will be a $109 buy-in eight-game competition from eight o’clock in the evening on Friday featuring ten-minute levels and a $50,000 guarantee.

“There are hundreds of exciting tournaments all year round but nothing compares to the WCOOP,” said professional poker player Daniel Negreanu.

“It’s the ‘must play’ event of the year for any poker player. Last year, over 20,000 players came together from across the world to compete in the largest ever online poker event for their chance to become a world champion.”

The WCOOP has been one of the richest online tournament series since it was first held in 2002 and new events for 2009 include a $320 buy-in fixed-limit Badugi tournament with a $100,000 guarantee on September 8. In addition, there will also be a big ante no-limit hold’em event with $500,000 up for grabs on September 16 alongside a $530 buy-in heads-up pot limit OMAHA contest with $250,000 guaranteed on September 19.

Australia: 8 pokies found to have dodgy volatility levels

One of Australia’s favourite gambling vehicles – poker machine games commonly referred to as ‘pokies’ – are at the centre of a new row building downunder. Eight of the 134 games approved since December 2007 have a level of volatility which is higher than that recommended by the Australia/New Zealand Gaming Machine National Standard, but their identities remain secret, reports news site News.com.au.

The Australia/New Zealand Gaming Machine National Standard recommends the nominal standard deviation of a game be no more than 15, yet the eight machines exposed through Freedom of Information Act disclosures are alleged to have volatilities in excess of this number.

While all poker machine games must have a return to player of at least 87.5%, games with a low volatility pay out a larger number of small prizes. However, highly volatile games pay out a smaller number of large prizes.

The disclosures have been exacerbated by a bar on identifying the games because the information is deemed to be “commercially sensitive”.

Independent MP Kris Hanna told News.com.au that the excessively volatile games were cheating punters. “While some receive higher jackpots, there is less return to players in between payouts,” he said.

“The machines are already addictive enough without extra tricks. Gamblers should be told which games pay out less frequently.”

However, Independent Gambling Authority director Robert Chappell said he was not concerned about the claims because the regulation was a guideline.

“This particular fact doesn’t concern me,” he said.

“It’s a welcome development that the regulators have put limits on volatility because it enables us to be better assured games will resolve at their true return to player.”

Australian Hotels Association SA general manager Ian Horne said if Chappell wasn’t concerned, then no one should be.

“If the independent regulator has no concerns and they are qualified in this material, why would Kris Hanna have any concerns other than to cause mischief,” he said.

“We have total confidence in the integrity of the approval system and anyone who suggests there is some manipulation here is being deliberately provocative for political gain.”
